Water Pollution Works > Lavender Lake Bag 2012

Bag created for the MCM and @60" 2012 Miami Basel event 'A Rendez-Vous Between Fashion and Art"

The ‘Lavender Lake’ bag was created as a collaboration between the Gowanus Canal and the artist. In keeping with the artists ecologically based projects, strips of activated charcoal fabric were placed on the bag to act as a purification element when the bag was placed in the Gowanus Canal. Marks and lines were created by the flow of water as it passed by the bag’s surface, synthesizing human and natural interaction upon a single surface.
The bag has been titled after the Gowanus’ nickname ‘Lavender Lake’. A name bestowed upon the canal by residents on account of its multicolored sheen.
